Y Oh Y

I've begun going to our local YMCA this week to get some sort of regular exercise regimen going. Last weekend, I had this strong urge to do something to keep myself fit and healthy. I got motivated when I tried on my pre-pregnancy clothes and found out none of them fit me anymore. *sigh*

So I dragged my husband to the Y to scope out the place and its programs. A nice young man  showed us around. But before we started, he said, "By the way, we also offer a day care service here, would you like to tour that area first?" Great! What was I thinking going to the Y when they're known for family-oriented programs? You know, mommies and daddies with kids in tow, enjoying the pool, family yoga and other child-friendly activities. Just great.

But we were already there and I like the Y and I really am a sucker for placing my fragile, low on confidence baby loss self in the middle of happy, smiling, simply glowing with pride families. *deep sigh*

I gave my husband a quick glance and said, "Let's just skip that area." I faked cheerful and upbeat. But the nice young man insisted, "Let's tour it just the same, in case you want to leave your child..." This time I cut him short. "Really let's not."  I gave him a look as if daring him to say anything more and if he did, I would seriously punch him in the face.

My husband's quick thinking saved the boy. "We're more interested in the pool and the exercise room. I heard you've got nice ones here," he said, looking at a picture window that showed all the fitness torture contraption. He faked eager rather well.

Finding his captive audience, the no-longer-nice young man enthusiastically described each and every machine to my husband. He took us to see the big yoga room and finally, the pool. I was satisfied with the facility. I even forgave the no-longer-nice young man. Just a little.

Now let's see if I could keep to the regimen consistently. *fingers crossed*

Good luck! I hope you meet your goals quickly! I keep saying I should get back to the gym, but have yet to get serious about it. Maybe someday soon... :)

Good luck with your new regimen. I love the Y but am a little afraid to face the happy families! Your experiences with the guy made me smile with sympathy. I am glad your husband got him to stop pushing!

Good for you! All we can do is keep moving, and hope that our hearts heal eventually. Being physically active reminds me that I'm alive and that my body is good...even if I sometimes feel like it failed us.

Wishing you a strong heart and clear memories.
